Energy has become one of the main competitiveness drivers for data center development, and Portugal is positioning itself as a strategic hub in this rapidly growing sector.
Against this backdrop, Prosolia Energy took part in the Data Center Summit organized by Portugal DC, an event that brought together key players from the digital and energy ecosystems to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Representing the Group were Pedro Gonçalves, Head of Distributed Generation Portugal, and Diana Figueiredo, Marketing & Communications Manager Portugal, who attended a forum focused on the critical role of energy in data center growth.
During the event, contributions from Isaltino Morais, Mayor of Oeiras, and Bernardo Correia, Secretary of State for Digitalization, underlined the strategic importance of data centers for the national economy, as well as the unique conditions Portugal offers to attract further investment in the sector.
Key topics discussed included the need for cost predictability through PPAs, the increasing adoption of hybrid solutions combining solar energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind power, as well as the role of behind-the-meter solutions. Other key points included grid access and reinforcement, and the simplification and increased flexibility of licensing processes.
The discussions throughout the event reinforced that, in a rapidly evolving sector, ensuring reliable, competitive, and sustainable energy will be essential for the future of data centers and for strengthening Portugal’s position as a leading digital hub in Europe.
