OBJECTIVE
The project aims to integrate locally generated renewable electricity directly into Lear's industrial operations in Viana do Castelo. By producing energy at the point of consumption, the installation helps reduce reliance on electricity purchased from the grid while supporting a more efficient and resilient energy strategy.
Through a long-term PPA with Prosolia Energy, Lear can incorporate additional renewable capacity without allocating investment capital to the solar infrastructure, keeping resources focused on its core industrial activity.
ENERGY PARTNERSHIP
With an installed capacity of 1.05 MWp, the photovoltaic installation is designed to generate approximately 1.3 GWh of renewable electricity per year, which is consumed directly at the industrial facility.
Prosolia Energy finances, owns and operates the renewable energy asset over the long term, while Lear benefits from locally generated electricity. This model connects renewable generation directly with industrial demand and supports greater predictability in energy costs.
SUSTAINABILITY
The project is expected to avoid approximately 613 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, equivalent to the carbon capture capacity of around 3,804 trees.
By increasing the share of renewable electricity used directly at the facility, the solution helps reduce the carbon intensity of Lear's operations and supports the wider decarbonization of the automotive industry. At the same time, the project demonstrates how long-term renewable energy partnerships can combine sustainability objectives with industrial competitiveness.
